PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Due to the volunteer nature of Select, the success of
our program is dependent on a high degree of involvement
and support on the part of the parents. At the preseason
team organizational meetings, the parents may be asked
to contribute to the team's success by performing routine
administrative or organizational tasks, practice assistance,
fund raising, etc. Additionally, each team shall be responsible
to supply a parent representative to help coordinate efforts
necessary to run the club throughout the year.
HELPFUL TIPS
Parental evaluation carries a great deal of weight with
a child. The attitude shown by parents at games towards
their child, other team members, the opposing team, officials,
and the coach influence the child’s values and behavior
in sports. Criticism, disrespect for officials and opponents
by over-anxious or over-protective parents bent on immediate
success rather than long-range benefits undermines the
purpose of sports and brings stresses beyond those of
competition into the game.
Below
is a list of helpful tips for parents:
• Make athletic participation for your child and
others a positive experience.
• Attempt to relieve the pressure of competition,
not increase it.
• Be kind to your child’s coach and respectful
to officials. The coach is a volunteer, giving of personal
time to provide a positive soccer experience for your
child.
• The opponents are necessary friends who also enjoy
the game of soccer. Without them, your child could not
participate.
• Applaud good plays by your team and by members
of the opposing team.
• Do not openly question the judgment or honesty
of the referee. They are a symbol of fair play, integrity,
and sportsmanship. All referees follow the same creed
to call the game to the best of their ability.
• Accept the results of each game. Encourage your
child to be gracious in victory, and turn defeat to victory
by working towards improvement.
• Parent behavior to anger to degrade a player,
coach or referee is subject to disciplinary action by
the Cincinnati United Soccer League.
• Parents are responsible to arrange safe transportation
to and from practices and games.
• Alert coaches of any player health concerns.
• Notify the coach in advance of any absences (practices
or games).
• Learn (or make an attempt to learn) the rules
of soccer. |
